In September, 2017, Theatre Lunatico will end its years of nomadic venue hopping and move into its very own home. We will be moving into La Val’s Subterranean Theatre. This space has a lot of history! We hope to honor that history by building a vibrant hub of ensemble theatre work.

Just as we like to produce big theatre in small spaces, we have big plans for this small studio. We intend to establish a laboratory space for our ensemble theatre approach, providing classes, performance opportunities, discussions and workshops.

Theatre Lunatico includes a Youth Mentorship Program where young, teen-aged actors are invited to work alongside our adult performers and to experience rehearsal and professional performances. With our new residency at La Val’s Subterranean Theater, we plan to expand our youth mentorship program by offering additional training and experience to upcoming young artists, as well as forging a connection with UC Berkeley students to offer an outlet for practical experience in the theatre.

It is our intention to use our residency to create a nexus for the local community near La Val’s and for our greater Bay Area theatre community—a safe place to gather ideas, dialogue, and meet people in an intimate professional venue, teaching facility, and space to experience, create, and collaborate.

We want to forge a fiery hub for writers, poets, musicians (acoustic), dancers, actors, teachers to come together to collaborate on new work, in addition to continuing to produce classic theatre through our highly successful Shoebox Shakespeare Series.

We are renovating our new home with the support of Theatre Bay Area’s CA$H THEATRE grant. Thank you TBA!
